I've recently become quite smitten with HBO's new show of the same name as this journal entry. It's exciting, and fun, and has this way of sweeping you up and making you really *feel* something. The characters are charming and the dialogue is clever and a complete delight to listen to. This is all of course just one man's opinion.
So, like any twenty-something of this day and age, I plugged it into Google to see what popped up. And I was completely blown away by how angry people got about it. It seems to be that people take their television very seriously in this situation.
Normally I don't like to rant about things other people don't like, because quite frankly it doesn't matter. Love and tolerance after all. But in this situation I feel the need to share for reasons that defy my understanding.
What seems to be forgotten quite frequently is that this TV show is just that. A T.V. show. It's fictional and should be treated as such, I don't think the writer actually intends to change the world I think he's trying to tell a story. It's not pushing an agenda, and the fact that it's inaccurate about some events in the world seems irrelevant to me. Its a show that's first and foremost about Idealism, about telling the truth, about perseverance, and about redemption. The details a story uses shouldn't be important beyond its own confines, storytelling flaws notwithstanding.
Perhaps I'm being the weird one, or maybe I don't get it because I don't watch the news or give a damn about politics, but those are my thoughts. And now they're on the internet.
